Can AI actually do this job?

the honest answer

It can

where it genuinely helps
  • Explain the theory behind the work
  • Draft, tidy and structure your writing
  • Rehearse a hard conversation before you have it
  • Build a study plan that fits your gaps

It cannot

where it stops, completely
  • Be in the room where a classroom assistant actually works
  • Carry the responsibility when the call is wrong — that weight stays yours
  • Notice what no one wrote down: the hesitation, the thing left unsaid
  • Live with the outcome

What the work pays

two countries, two different measures

India

the occupation GROUP, not this job · PLFS via ILOSTAT 2025
  • ₹15,575 a month — the median for Service and sales workers, the group this work sits in
  • India publishes pay by broad occupation group, so this covers many jobs besides this one. It is a shape, not a salary.

Questions people actually ask

You’ll usually arrive 15–30 minutes before class to set up materials, turn on AV equipment, and open Google Classroom or ClassDojo for messages.

Expect Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for handouts, Excel for simple grade sheets, Outlook for staff messages, and Google Classroom or ClassDojo to post assignments and communicate with students and parents.

AI can draft quizzes, summarize student work, or suggest discussion prompts, but never submit AI-generated student grades or sensitive student data to external services. Keep student names and scores inside school-approved systems like Google Classroom or the school’s SIS.

You’ll split time: many shifts are supervision—monitor behavior in class, hallways, or bus loading/unloading—and other periods assist the teacher with lesson delivery, grading homework, or leading small-group instruction under their direction.

Take a CPR/first-aid class, a basic child development course, and learn Google Classroom, ClassDojo, and basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Schools often require a background check and a short orientation.

Organization: keeping lesson materials labeled, laminating reusable items, maintaining grade records in Excel or paper, and setting up AV equipment quickly reduces chaos and makes the teacher’s day run smoothly.
