Fermentation technologists focus on the science and control of fermentation across foods — not just beer. You work on product safety, shelf life, and replacing harmful additives, while food scientists may cover broader product formulation.

Brewers primarily make beer at scale and focus on recipe and sensory consistency. Fermentation technologists apply fermentation to many products (dairy, kombucha, tempeh) and handle inspections, QA programs, and regulatory records.

AI can speed literature reviews and suggest formulations, but always validate suggestions in the lab. Use AI to summarize papers, find patents, or draft SOPs, but run controlled tests and sensory panels to verify safety and flavor.
