Align the client's web presence with its business strategy+
Align the company website with the 2026 growth plan by mapping each service page to its target customer segment, update navigation and CTAs so enterprise leads see pricing and case studies first, then send the site map to Carlos and Maya by Tuesday for sign-off.

Troubleshoot website issues+
Troubleshoot the report of slow page loads and intermittent form failures: reproduce the errors, capture console logs and network waterfall, roll back last deploy if needed, and notify Javier and the dev team with findings and ETA within four hours.

Design layout and visual elements+
Design the homepage and service pages layout to highlight the new pricing tiers: wireframe desktop and mobile layouts, build visual comps for the hero, feature grid and testimonial module, get feedback from Ana by Friday, then freeze assets for development handoff.

Stay updated with web design trends and technologies+
Research current web design patterns and the three competitors we track, summarise accessible component examples and performance techniques in a two-page brief, recommend two libraries to trial, and send it to Leo and the design team next Monday.

Integrate multimedia elements into websites+
Integrate the new product demo video and animated hero into the site: encode responsive video sources, add poster images and accessible captions, embed the animation with graceful fallback, then test on iOS and Android and report any regressions to Marco.

Optimize website graphics for performance+
Optimize all hero and product images on the site for fast delivery: generate responsive sizes, convert to modern compressed formats, strip unnecessary metadata, and produce a validated image manifest so pages load under two seconds on mobile by Friday.

Create searchable indices for Web page content.+
Build searchable indices for all page content: extract headings, body text, alt text and metadata, normalise tokens, create a lightweight inverted index per section, and deliver a JSON-backed search index that updates as content changes.

Create interactive web prototypes that include page layouts, component states, data shape examples and a diagram of how data flows between client and API, then hand over clickable models and a data dictionary to the engineers.

Can AI actually do this job?

the honest answer

It can

where it genuinely helps
  • Teach the whole rule-set in one sitting
  • Answer every 'how do I' question you have

It cannot

where it stops, completely
  • Do the thing for you once you know the rule

Questions people actually ask

You’ll split time between design work and technical tasks. Mornings often include meetings with clients or product teams to align the site with business goals and review timelines or moodboards.

Afternoons are for hands-on work: creating page layouts in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, building prototypes, writing HTML/CSS/JavaScript, testing pages across browsers and devices, and updating site content. You’ll also check site performance and traffic and fix bugs as they appear.

Start with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for visuals, and Adobe InDesign or After Effects if you make layouts or motion graphics. For code, learn HTML, JavaScript, and basic SQL.

For hosting and backend work, learn Amazon Web Services basics (EC2, DynamoDB, Redshift if you touch data). Familiarize yourself with AJAX for dynamic pages and simple server performance logging (server load, bandwidth).

Use AI for speed—generate layout ideas, alt text, or draft copy—but never paste sensitive client data into public tools. Treat AI output like a first draft: verify accuracy, accessibility, and copyright.

Keep records of what you used AI for in project notes, and ask clients for permission if AI will touch proprietary content. Run AI-generated images or code through your usual QA, accessibility checks, and performance tests.

You’ll write HTML, JavaScript, and sometimes SQL regularly—for page structure, interactivity, and simple database queries. Expect to fix integration issues, test AJAX calls, and optimize assets.

You don’t need to be a full-stack developer, but you should be comfortable editing code, reading system interaction diagrams, and using dev tools to troubleshoot browser or server reports (load, device types, bandwidth).

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for 2025, there were 113,330 employed web designers with a median wage of $104,000 per year. The lowest tenth earned $53,750 and the top tenth earned $201,550 per year.

Local pay varies by city, experience, portfolio strength, and whether you add related skills like front-end development or AWS. Use the BLS data as a national benchmark.

A web designer focuses on visual layout, content updates, and integrating multimedia—using tools like Photoshop and InDesign—while keeping the site aligned with business goals.

A UX designer specializes in user research, journey maps, and usability testing. A front-end developer builds interactive functionality and optimizes performance with deeper JavaScript, frameworks, and server integration. Web designers sit between these roles and often do tasks from both areas.

Build a strong portfolio with 3–6 real pages: show layout design (Photoshop/Illustrator), a working HTML/CSS/JavaScript page, and examples of content updates and troubleshooting you did.

Also learn to run simple site tests, document results, and explain performance metrics (server load, bandwidth, browser types). Employers look for practical work you can talk through, not just certificates.

How far can AI take you?

one question
Be honest — how far can a language model take you on browsing?
There is a real answer, and it is not the flattering one.
