Can AI actually do this job?

the honest answer

It can

where it genuinely helps
  • Explain the theory behind the work
  • Draft, tidy and structure your writing
  • Rehearse a hard conversation before you have it
  • Build a study plan that fits your gaps

It cannot

where it stops, completely
  • Be in the room where a wellness coach actually works
  • Carry the responsibility when the call is wrong — that weight stays yours
  • Notice what no one wrote down: the hesitation, the thing left unsaid
  • Live with the outcome

Questions people actually ask

You’ll split time between coaching sessions, planning, and paperwork. Mornings often run client or team training sessions; afternoons are for lesson plans, review of performance records, and equipment checks.

You also spend time on admin: scheduling, emailing parents or clients in Microsoft Outlook or Bloomz, updating progress in Microsoft Excel or Google Docs, and preparing presentations in PowerPoint for group workshops. Travel to competitions or site visits happens a few times a month.

Expect to use Microsoft Outlook for scheduling and parent or client contact, Microsoft Excel to track athlete performance and budgets, and Google Docs or Microsoft Word for training plans and notes.

For presentations or group education you’ll use Microsoft PowerPoint. Some schools or clubs use Bloomz to message families and post schedules. Knowing these five systems covers most day-to-day admin.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 248,950 employed in this category with a median wage of $47,320 per year. The lowest tenth earned $28,790 and the top tenth earned $98,860 per year.

Pay varies by employer type (school, college, private club), location, and your experience or certifications. Use the BLS numbers to set realistic expectations.

AI can help generate training plans, draft emails, or make session outlines, but always check output for accuracy and safety. Don’t let AI replace professional judgment when you explain exercises or modify progressions.

Keep client data secure: store names and health notes in protected systems, avoid pasting sensitive info into public AI tools, and use employer-approved platforms (Outlook, Google Workspace with proper permissions) for records.

Communication and motivating people are essential: you’ll explain exercises, contact parents or clients, and lead people through change. Organizational skills matter for planning sessions, tracking performance in Excel, and managing equipment.

Also develop a coaching style and teaching strategies. Safety knowledge (rules, equipment use), basic budgeting/fundraising, and the ability to guide others to solve problems are concrete tasks you’ll do regularly.
