Duplicate clip or track

I need a second version of this shot to try a different trim. Duplicate the selected clip on the timeline, place the copy directly above the original on a new track, and label the new track A/B_Test. Keep both clips linked to their audio. Save the project after duplicating.

Before I duplicate this sequence, make the comparison process obvious: duplicate the clip into a new track and append A/B_Test to the clip name, mute the original track so the duplicate plays, and color the duplicate track so an editor can instantly see which one to review. Leave a note explaining what I want tested — cut length or speed ramp.

I copied a clip to try a different trim and now the audio is out of sync because the duplicate lost its link to the original audio track. I don’t have time to rebuild the whole sequence, and Jamie expects two clean options by lunchtime. How do I quickly re-link the duplicate to the same audio region without breaking the original version, and what check will prove it’s synced correctly?

On nearly every project we create multiple trim variations and then accidentally overwrite the clean versions or lose audio links. It costs us hours when a producer asks for the alternate take. What three habits or a simple folder/track naming system should I standardize so duplicates are safe, discoverable, and ready for review?
