Open Adobe Acrobat Pro on your computer.
Go to the Tools pane and select Compare Files.
In the Compare Files window, click Select File on the left to choose the older version of your PDF.
Click Select File on the right to choose the newer version of your PDF.
Click Compare to start the comparison process.
Review the summary report that appears, which highlights all text and graphic differences between the two files.
Best practiceFor best results, avoid using scanned PDFs as input, since Acrobat compares text and graphics most accurately with digitally generated files.
Use the side-by-side view and navigation tools to examine each change in detail, including both textual edits and visual modifications.
Best practiceYou can focus the comparison on text, graphics, or both by adjusting the settings before running the comparison.
After comparing, use the navigation panel to quickly jump between each detected change in your PDFs.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
The 'Compare Files' feature in Adobe Acrobat helps you quickly see what changes were made between two similar PDF documents. It highlights the differences so you don't have to look through every page yourself. This is very useful for reviewing revisions or tracking progress.
The 'Compare Files' tool cannot work with PDFs that have security settings because these settings prevent Acrobat from accessing and analyzing the document's content fully. To compare such files, you must first remove the security protection from both the old and new versions of your artwork PDF. This allows Acrobat to read both files and find the differences.
By default, 'Compare Files' tries to compare both text and graphics in your artwork PDF. However, you have an option to 'Compare text only'. If you select this, Acrobat will ignore any changes in images or drawings and only show you differences in the text. This is helpful if your artwork has many images but you only care about text updates.
After you compare two artwork PDFs, Acrobat opens a summary page that shows you the total number of changes found. Then, you can use 'Previous Change' and 'Next Change' buttons to jump directly to each difference in the documents. This makes it easy to review every single update without manually searching through the pages.
