Export diagrams and screenshots from the draft as image files: export labeled figures and high-resolution screenshots …
Open your PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Go to the File menu and select Export To, then choose Image and select PNG as the format.
CautionTransparency is only preserved if the original PDF page contains transparent elements and you select PNG as the export format.
In the export dialog, click Settings or Gear icon (if available) to open format-specific options.
Ensure the Export Transparency or similar option is enabled (if available).
Best practiceIf you do not see a transparency option, Acrobat will export transparency by default for PNG, but only if the PDF page background is not solid white.
Choose your destination folder and click Save to export the PDF pages as PNG images with transparency preserved.
NoteEach PDF page will be saved as a separate PNG file.
To ensure transparency is preserved, check that your PDF pages have transparent backgrounds before exporting to PNG.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
In Adobe Acrobat, you usually need to use the 'Export To' feature and choose an image format that supports transparency, like PNG. However, not all PDFs or Acrobat versions allow for transparent backgrounds directly. You may need to remove the background first or use extra tools to make the background transparent.
A transparent background means that the area around or behind the main part of your image is see-through, so if you use the image on a colored or patterned background, only the image itself will show, not a white or colored box.
Exporting with a transparent background is helpful when you want to use parts of your PDF, like logos or diagrams, in other documents, presentations, or websites without any unwanted background showing up.
PNG is the most common format for images with transparent backgrounds, but some other formats like TIFF can also support transparency. JPEG does not support transparency, so it will always add a solid background.
Usually, the whole background can be made transparent, but if you want only certain parts to be see-through, you may need to edit the image after exporting it, using an image editing tool to erase or make parts transparent.
