Open Adobe Acrobat.
Go to File > Combine Files.
Click Add Files and select the PDF files you want to merge.
Arrange the files in your desired order by dragging and dropping them within the list.
Click Combine to merge the selected files into a single PDF document.
Save the new combined PDF to your preferred location.
You can preview and reorder files before combining to ensure the final PDF is in the correct sequence.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Preserving bookmarks is important because it makes your new, combined PDF easy to use. When you turn this option on, Acrobat creates a main bookmark for each original file you added. This means you can quickly click on a bookmark to go to the start of each original document within the large combined PDF, instead of scrolling through many pages to find specific sections.
If your combined PDF is very large, you should compress it after merging. Combining files rarely makes the file size smaller; it usually keeps the size the same or makes it bigger. Compressing the PDF will reduce its file size, making it easier to share, upload, or store without losing much quality. Look for a 'Compress PDF' tool in Acrobat after you have finished combining your documents.

Your combined PDF will have page numbers that restart if the original source files already had their own printed page numbers. When Acrobat merges these files, it just puts them together as they are. It does not automatically change or remove the old page numbers. To fix this, you would need to add new, continuous page numbers to the entire combined PDF after the merge is complete. This will create a single, flowing set of page numbers for the whole document.
