Drawing a black rectangle only covers the text, but the text is still underneath and can be copied and pasted by anyone. Using the Redact tool permanently removes the text or image from the document. It replaces the content with a black box, making it unrecoverable. For true security, always use the Redact tool, not just a drawing tool.

Redaction removes only visible content like text and images. For scanned documents, it will redact what you select. However, hidden data like metadata, layers, or revision history are not removed by redaction alone. You must also run the Sanitize feature after redacting to ensure all hidden data is stripped from the document, especially for scanned PDFs that might contain embedded information.
