Best practiceAlways double-check your search term and results to ensure all sensitive information is covered, especially with patterns like SSNs.
Save the redacted PDF with a new file name.
You can use the Find Text and Redact feature to quickly locate and mark all instances of sensitive words or patterns for redaction throughout your document.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Redacting content permanently removes the selected text or image from the PDF, making it unrecoverable. Drawing a black rectangle only covers the text visually; the text remains underneath and can still be copied and pasted, making it a security risk. Always use the Redact tool for sensitive information.
Redaction is permanent. Once you save a redacted document, the original sensitive information is gone forever. Working on a copy ensures you always keep the unredacted original document safe and available if you need it later, preventing accidental loss of data.
Redaction codes are labels you can add to redacted areas, explaining why certain content was removed (e.g., 'Privacy', 'Confidential'). Using consistent codes across your team helps everyone understand the reasons for redactions. This improves clarity, ensures compliance, and makes future document review easier for all involved.
