This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Redaction in a PDF means removing or hiding sensitive information so no one can see or recover it. This is important because personal data, like names or account numbers, can be misused if shared by mistake. Proper redaction keeps private information safe, especially when sharing documents outside your company.
| Redact Tool | Black Rectangle |
|---|---|
| Removes the text completely | Covers text, but text is still there |
| No one can recover the hidden data | People can copy and paste the covered text |
| Safer for sharing sensitive files | Unsafe—private data can leak |
The PDF Services API does not have a redaction feature. Only Acrobat Pro desktop can do real redaction. This means you must use the desktop app to remove sensitive data from PDFs.
