Assess the relationship between organisms and their environment

I need an ecological summary for the grant update. Consolidate field observations, species counts, and water-quality readings into one sheet, compute species richness and Shannon diversity per site, and produce a small table that correlates species abundance with pH and turbidity. Label any sites where an invasive species appears and make the sheet ready for the ecologist to paste into the report by Wednesday.

Before I give this to the project lead, make interpretation immediate. Put overall species richness and the three sites with biggest declines up top, show the correlation coefficients between abundance and the three key environmental variables, and flag sites where invasive presence coincides with a drop in native counts. Note any gaps in sampling dates that could mislead conclusions.

We collected counts and the native species declined sharply after last month’s heavy rains; community members say invasive species are spreading but sampling was limited during the peak. I’m worried the decline is seasonal, not invasion-driven, and I lack consistent pre-rain baseline data. What is the most likely explanation and the minimal additional data or checks I should request before we tell stakeholders?
