Before I hand this to the site team, make the contacts sheet easy to scan and use on the phone — show Role and Company first, surface the on-site primary with a coloured cell, add a Last‑confirmed date column and a quick filter for Trade so I can find who to call under pressure.

Forecast Sheet

The Forecast Sheet in Microsoft Excel helps you predict future values based on your historical data.

  1. 1

Organize your data into two columns: one for time-based dates or numerical data, and one for corresponding values.

Best practiceEnsure your time-based series data is ready before creating a forecast sheet.

  2. 2

Select any cell within your range of data.

RecommendationSelecting the entire range (e.g., A1:B13) is also effective.

  3. 3

Click the Data tab in the ribbon.

  4. 4

In the Forecast group, select Forecast Sheet.

NoteThis button is also accessible via the shortcut ALT + A + F + C on Excel for Mac.

  5. 5

In the Create Forecast Worksheet box, pick either a line chart or a column chart for your forecast visualization.

  6. 6

Specify the Forecast End date by selecting it from the calendar.

  7. 7

Click Options to adjust settings like Confidence Interval, Seasonality, or Fill Missing Points.

NoteThe Forecast Sheet uses the FORECAST.ETS function, which employs the Exponential Smoothing (ETS) algorithm.

  8. 8

Click Create to generate the forecast sheet.

NoteA new worksheet will be added to your workbook containing the forecast chart and data.

For accurate cash flow analysis or budget planning, always verify your historical data for any errors before generating a forecast.

While the Forecast Sheet is a UI feature, Excel's underlying forecasting functions (FORECAST.LINEAR, FORECAST.ETS) can be used in VBA or other automation scripts.

No. Each page gives you a ready prompt you can paste into an AI assistant, plus the plain steps to do it yourself. Start with either — the goal is the finished job, not the tool.
