Formulas in Excel perform calculations and operations on data within your worksheets.

    Select the empty cell where you want to enter the formula.

    Type an equal sign (=) to indicate the start of a formula.

    NoteThis tells Excel you are entering a calculation, not just text.

    Type the constants and operators, or a built-in function, for your calculation.

    Best practiceFor simple math, use operators like + (addition), - (subtraction), * (multiplication), and / (division).

    Press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac) to complete the formula.

    To quickly apply the same formula to a range, select the range.

    Type the formula, then press Ctrl+Enter to fill the range.
