Perform material and energy flow analyses

Complete the material and energy flow analysis for the batch process and send the workbook to Anika in process engineering and to Carl the environmental lead. Verify mass balance closes within 1% on key streams, document any assumed losses in the notes sheet, and request sign-off by Monday end of day.

Before I hand the flow analysis to process engineering, make it easy to validate: put the mass-balance summary and percent closure at the top, flag any streams with more than 1% discrepancy, make energy-intensity per unit product findable, and add a one-line description of each loss assumption that would make an engineer hesitate.

I completed the M&E flow for the batch line and total mass balance closes everywhere except an intermediate solvent stream with a 3.8% unexplained loss. I cannot tell whether this is measurement error, evaporation, or a hidden bleed. I must decide whether to present the report with the loss documented and a recommendation to instrument the line, to adjust by reallocating losses proportionally across streams, or to run another data pass. Which choice best preserves credibility with Carl and Anika?

On nearly every flow analysis I spend hours chasing small percent gaps, re-tracing data sources and re-running reconciliations, which slows delivery and makes me look uncertain.
