Pathfinder

The Pathfinder panel helps you combine and divide overlapping objects to create new shapes.

    Select Window > Pathfinder to open the Pathfinder panel.

    Best practiceYou can also use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Ctrl + F9 (Windows) or Shift + Cmd + F9 (Mac) to open the panel.

    Select two or more overlapping shapes using the Selection tool.

    In the Pathfinder panel, click a Shape Mode button to combine or subtract shapes.

    NoteFor example, click Unite to merge selected shapes into one.

    Alternatively, click a Pathfinders button to divide or trim shapes.

    Press the Escape key to deselect the resulting paths.

    To access more options, click the More Options button in the Pathfinder section.

    Select Pathfinder Options from the panel menu to set Precision and Remove Redundant Points.
