Actions Panel

The Actions panel in Adobe Photoshop automates repetitive tasks by recording and playing back a series of commands.

  1. 1

Open the Actions panel by navigating to Window > Actions, or press F9.

  2. 2

Click the Create New Action button at the bottom of the panel, or choose New Action from the panel menu.

  3. 3

Name the action in the New Action dialog box, then click Record.

Best practiceOrganize your actions into sets by creating a new action set before creating the action itself.

  4. 4

Perform the sequence of tasks you want to automate; Photoshop will record each step.

NoteEach command, such as applying a filter or adjusting an image, will appear as a step in the Actions panel.

  5. 5

Click the Stop playing/recording button at the bottom of the Actions panel to finish recording.

  6. 6

To play an action, select the action name in the Actions panel and click the Play selection button.

NoteYou can play an entire action or select a specific step to begin playing from.

  7. 7

To save your work, go to File > Save or File > Save As.

Use the 'Classic Actions' view from the panel menu if you prefer the previous panel layout.

Photoshop Actions can be used in conjunction with scripts and batch processing for advanced automation workflows.

Because you rarely think 'I want the redaction tool'. You think 'I have to share this without leaking the client's details'. Start from the need, and the feature finds you.

Real. Every job here was drawn from what people in real roles were actually seen doing in Photoshop — not a feature checklist.

No. Each page gives you a ready prompt you can paste into an AI assistant, plus the plain steps to do it yourself. Start with either — the goal is the finished job, not the tool.
