We have lifestyle shots of a model holding the prototype and the hands show scuffs and uneven skin tones but must stay natural. Tell me how to balance cleaning with preserving skin texture: which retouch steps will remove obvious blemishes while keeping pores and knuckle shading, and where do I draw the line so brand won't call it over-retouched?
when the reply comes backPush once: ask it to sharpen the weakest part, and to say what it assumed.

The tool
Healing Brush Tool

The Healing Brush Tool seamlessly blends imperfections by sampling pixels from one area and applying them to another, matching texture, lighting, and shading.

  1. 1

Select the layer containing imperfections in the Layers panel.

  2. 2

Select the Healing Brush Tool (J) from the toolbar.

NoteIt may be nested under the Spot Healing Brush Tool.

  3. 3

Click the brush sample in the tool options bar to set brush options.

  4. 4

Adjust Size, Hardness, and Pressure in the options bar.

Best practiceUse the right square bracket key (]) to enlarge the brush, and the left ([) to shrink it.

  5. 5

Hold Alt (Option on Mac) and click a desired sample area.

NoteThis sets the source pixels for healing.

  6. 6

Click or drag over the imperfection to apply the sampled texture.

RecommendationAdjust the brush size so it is slightly larger than the blemish for best results.

  7. 7

Repeat sampling and painting as needed for other imperfections.

  8. 8

Go to File > Save or File > Save As to commit your work.

For non-destructive editing, create a new empty layer above your image and set the Healing Brush's Sample option to 'Current & Below' or 'All Layers'.

The Healing Brush Tool's functionality is not directly exposed for automation via scripting or actions in a way that replicates its intelligent blending.

Open your photo in Photoshop, then go to Filter > Lens Correction. Use the Auto correction tab or manually adjust the sliders for 'Remove Distortion' to straighten curved lines.

This helps make your shelves and seams appear true and professional, especially in product photography where accuracy matters. It's a quick fix that improves the overall look of the image.

You should do it after importing your photos and before cropping or retouching skin tones. Correcting distortion early ensures all subsequent edits are based on accurate lines.

For product managers or photographers, fixing distortion before retouching details like product edges ensures a cleaner, more realistic result.

Use the 'Remove Distortion' slider in Lens Correction, then compare before and after by toggling the preview box. Fine-tune until straight lines look natural without over-correcting.

A common mistake is overdoing it, which can make the image look unnaturally straight or warped. Subtle adjustments keep the photo realistic.

They often over-correct, making straight lines look too flat or unnatural. Always compare the original and corrected images to keep it realistic.

For example, a product photo where shelves appear unnaturally flat can distract viewers and reduce trust in your presentation.

Photographers or product managers often handle this step when preparing images for catalogs or online shops. They use Photoshop to ensure products look true-to-life.

AI can quickly suggest corrections, but manual adjustments are often needed for perfection. AI is useful for rough fixes but still requires human judgment for natural results.

Aligning outdoor scenes involves matching horizon lines and perspective, while lens correction specifically targets curved lines caused by the lens. Both improve realism but focus on different issues.
