How to do it

the tool · the steps · what to avoid
The tool
Text Box

A Text Box allows you to add and format text anywhere on your PowerPoint slide.

  1. 1

Open the slide where you want to add a text box.

  2. 2

On the ribbon, select the Insert tab.

  3. 3

In the Text group, click Text Box.

Best practiceClicking anywhere on the slide after selecting 'Text Box' will create a default text box, or you can click and drag to define its size.

  4. 4

On the slide, click and drag to draw the text box to your desired size and position.

  5. 5

Click inside the text box and type or paste your text.

  6. 6

To move the text box, select it and drag it when the pointer becomes a four-headed arrow.

  7. 7

To format text, select the text within the box and choose options from the Font section on the Home tab.

  8. 8

Right-click the text box border and select Format Shape to adjust margins or other text box properties.

To quickly access text box options, right-click the text box border and choose 'Format Shape' from the context menu.
