Secure funding and write grant applications

Finish the first draft of the NIH-style grant narrative and budget justification for the Parkinson's metabolism project for internal review on Tuesday. Include specific aims, a one-page significance section, preliminary data bullets, and a clear budget table showing personnel, supplies, and a 10% facilities fee; label the deliverable 'Draft for internal review' and attach the preliminary data figures.

Before I share this with the department head, make it easy to fund: open with the expected milestones and projected funding amounts, surface the strongest preliminary result on page one, make the personnel costs obvious in the budget, and highlight any gaps that would make a program officer hesitate to fund it.

Our external collaborator withdrew last week and the grant's strongest preliminary result is gone. I'm the PI and afraid the review will score us out of range. Should I (1) replace the aim with internal pilot data, (2) delay submission to rebuild the collaboration, or (3) reframe the aim to remove dependence on that data? Advise the likely reviewer reaction and the recommended immediate next move.

Over the last six proposals we scramble to finish budgets and letters the week before submission, which costs credibility and wastes reviewers' time. I lead grant writing and want to eliminate last-minute churn: where do we lose time, what habit should the team adopt, and what concrete weekly checkpoint will fix it?
