The ball keeps moving forward, and gravity pulls it down the whole time. Blend the two and you get this smooth curve — a parabola. A 45° throw flies the farthest.
Three worlds
Earth — a brisk arc. Moon — weak pull, so the ball floats up high and drifts down slowly. Wind — a steady push bends the flight sideways.
