Chapter 17 — Apostrophes & Quotes
How do apostrophes and quotation marks work?
An apostrophe shows an owner or missing letters; quotation marks hold someone's exact words — "Riya's bag", "don't", "two mangoes" (no apostrophe). Ask whether something is owned, something is missing, or someone is being quoted. Learn one and many owners, its or it's, your or you're, contractions, punctuating speech, single or double quotes, and quoting in essays, for ages 5 to 19.
