Chapter 23 — Error Spotting
Is this sentence right, or is one word wrong?
An error breaks a rule of standard English; a choice does not. "The cat are sleeping" breaks agreement; "is" fixes it. "She goes to school, and she likes it" is simply one good way to write it. Run the Four-Pass Check - verb, match, mark, sense - then decide: name the one error and fix it, or say "No error" when nothing is wrong. Covers agreement, tense, pronoun, article, preposition, plural and possessive slips, confusable words, run-ons, fragments, splices, modifiers, parallel structure, exam formats, proofreading your own writing, and Indian English standards versus exam non-standard forms, for ages 5 to 19.
