You usually start by checking the control panels, SCADA screens, and your flight plan. Morning tasks include reading gauges, confirming meter reads, and doing a pre-flight inspection of the drone and batteries.

During the shift you fly specific inspection routes to check pipelines, valves, and tank roofs, record temperature and visual data, and upload photos or videos to the SCADA or inventory tracking system. You also log readings in Microsoft Excel and report anomalies via Microsoft Outlook or Word.

You’ll work with SCADA and programmable logic controller (PLC) interfaces to see process indicators, flow rates, and alarms while you’re in the control room or on-site. Drones feed visual data into those systems or to the inventory tracking database.

You’ll also use Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets of meter and tank readings, Microsoft Outlook for shift handovers and incident reports, and Word to write inspection reports. Control panels and radio links connect drone controls to site systems.
