Afternoons usually involve running tests, recording measurements in Microsoft Excel, and inspecting designs for quality control.

You also visit production lines to observe conditions that affect paint application, write specs or maintenance standards, and meet engineers to solve technical design problems or plan next tests.

Expect Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office every day for data, reports, and schedules. For drawings and layouts you’ll use Autodesk AutoCAD or Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks to make or review part models and prototypes.

On test benches and embedded systems you may use Linux for device control, and standard lab test equipment to set up, run, and log experiments.
