Configure hardware and software+
Configure the lab rack for the demo environment: verify firmware on the routers, apply the standard VLAN and access-control policies, run the connectivity and performance tests, and log the configuration changes to the inventory before the customer walkthrough on Thursday.

Implement software solutions+
Deliver the integration package that connects the new feature to our deployment pipeline, run the acceptance tests to the quality checklist, log failures, and notify the application owners with remediation steps before the Friday release window.

Design system architecture+
Produce the system architecture diagram for the recommendation service showing data flows, component responsibilities, and failure modes, then circulate it to SRE and Data Engineering for feedback before the Tuesday design review.

Provide technical support+
Resolve the ticket from Marketing about the broken prompt pipeline: reproduce the error, attach the failing logs, apply the temporary workaround that preserves data, and update the ticket owner and the escalation manager with ETA for a permanent fix.

Analyze system performance+
Run the performance benchmarks for the inference cluster, compare latency and throughput against the SLA, document any regressions with trace samples, and share the report with Performance Engineering and Product by end of day.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams+
Prepare the cross-functional kickoff packet for the prompt optimisation project including goals, success metrics, test plan, and owners, then book the workshop with Product, UX, and Legal for next Wednesday and attach the packet.

Hardware testing methods+
Draft and send a concise hardware testing plan to QA lead Hannah that lists the measurement instruments, test procedures tied to the assembly drawings, pass/fail criteria aligned to our quality standards, required data logs, and a two-day window for lab testing starting Monday.

Manage database systems+
Review the production database health reports, run the integrity checks on the customer and billing schemas, escalate any failures to Claire in Ops with timestamps and suggested fixes by Thursday noon, and log results in the change register.

Can AI actually do this job?

the honest answer

It can

where it genuinely helps
  • Play the other person, over and over
  • Grade its own suggestion against your goal

It cannot

where it stops, completely
  • Live with the outcome the way a prompt engineer has to
L · R7 of R7This job sits on debugging — real theory, real diagnosis, but reality still holds the grading pen.

the occupation GROUP, not this job · PLFS via ILOSTAT 2025
  • ₹38,298 a month — the median for Professionals, the group this work sits in
  • India publishes pay by broad occupation group, so this covers many jobs besides this one. It is a shape, not a salary.

Questions people actually ask

Most days mix writing prompts, testing outputs, and fixing failures. You create prompts, run them against models, log results in JIRA, and tweak inputs until the output meets requirements.

You also meet product and engineering teams, update technical docs, and push tested prompt templates into version control (for example, a Git repo). Expect hands-on time in Linux or Windows, and occasional work with VMware hosts or SQL Server to access datasets.

Expect to use Linux for development and Windows for desktop tools. You’ll store prompts and logs in JIRA and backend data in SQL Server or Oracle. VMware often hosts test environments; Cisco gear and network monitoring tools appear when latency or API access is tested.

You’ll also use Microsoft Office for reports and diagrams, and measurement instruments (logs, performance dashboards) to evaluate response speed and accuracy.

You write test cases that cover expected and edge inputs, then run them against the model and record outputs. Use JIRA to track each test, and SQL Server or Oracle to store test inputs and results for comparison.

Measure success with concrete metrics: accuracy rate, response latency (ms), and failure rate. Use system performance tools on Linux or VMware to check resource use when models are under load.

Never feed sensitive production data into a public model. Use sanitized or synthetic datasets stored in SQL Server/Oracle for testing. Keep test environments isolated, such as separate VMware guests or Linux containers behind Cisco-managed networks.

Document procedures for data handling, follow company quality standards, and coordinate with vendors if you use third-party models. Log access and test results in JIRA so audits can verify compliance.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 435,370 employed in similar roles; the median wage is $116,580 per year, the lowest tenth is $55,940, and the top tenth is $188,470. Cite: BLS (2025).

Actual pay varies by company, location, and your experience with systems like Oracle, SQL Server, VMware, and Cisco network tools.

Start with solid prompt-writing practice and test case design; keep a JIRA or simple log of experiments. Learn basic Linux commands, one database (SQL Server or Oracle) and how to run queries, and basic networking concepts tied to Cisco devices.

Also learn how to use VMware to spin up test environments, document procedures clearly in Microsoft Office formats, and read assembly drawings or blueprints if you’ll test hardware integration. Employers value concrete, testable results and clear documentation.

How far can AI take you?

one question
Be honest — how far can a language model take you on debugging?
There is a real answer, and it is not the flattering one.
