You can use multiple annotation types in one session, such as highlighting text and adding sticky notes for detailed feedback.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Sticky notes are like digital Post-it notes; they show a small icon and you click it to read the note. Text boxes are visible text areas directly on the page, so you can see the comment without clicking. Both let you add text, but text boxes are better for longer, visible comments, while sticky notes are good for quick, hidden remarks.
You should sanitize your PDF to protect your privacy and prevent accidental information leaks. When you add comments or markups, they are stored as a separate layer. If you share the file without sanitizing, others can see all your review notes, even private ones. Sanitizing removes these layers, ensuring only the final document content is shared and keeping your review process confidential.
This means that your comments, highlights, and drawings are not permanently part of the original document content. They sit on top of it, like a transparent sheet. This is useful because you can easily hide, show, or delete them without changing the main text or images. However, it also means you must 'flatten' or 'sanitize' the document if you want to make them permanent or remove them completely before sharing, ensuring the original content remains untouched.
