Open Adobe Acrobat.
Go to File > Combine Files.
Click Add Files and select the PDF files you want to merge.
Arrange the files in your desired order by dragging and dropping them within the list.
Click Combine to merge the selected files into a single PDF document.
Save the new combined PDF to your preferred location.
You can preview and reorder files before combining to ensure the final PDF is in the correct sequence.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Keeping 'Preserve Bookmarks' on is very helpful because it makes each original file a separate bookmark in your new combined PDF. This means you can easily navigate through the large document by clicking on the file names in the bookmarks panel, making it much easier to find specific sections.
When you combine files, Acrobat treats each original document as a separate part. If those original documents already had their own page numbers, those numbers are kept as part of each section. To get continuous page numbers across the entire new combined PDF, you will need to add new page numbers after the combining process is finished. This will overwrite any existing page numbers from the original files.
No, combining files rarely makes the new PDF smaller. Usually, the size stays about the same or even gets a little bigger. If you need a smaller file, you should compress the PDF *after* you have combined all the files into one document.
