Recognizing text in a scanned PDF, also called OCR, converts image-based text into real, searchable text. This is important because it allows you to select, copy, and search for words within your document, making it much easier to find information and manage your files.
For the best text recognition accuracy, it's recommended to scan your documents at 300 dpi. If your scanned drawing has very faint lines, the OCR might struggle to accurately identify the characters. You should try to improve the scan quality if possible, or manually correct any recognition errors that Acrobat highlights after the OCR process is complete.
Selecting the correct language before running OCR is crucial because the recognition engine uses language-specific rules and dictionaries to identify characters and words. If the wrong language is chosen, the OCR will make many mistakes, leading to inaccurate text and poor search results. Always match the OCR language to the language in your document.
