Open the PDF file containing the shape or path you want to measure.
Select Tools in the upper left, then choose Measure from the list of available tools.
Click Perimeter in the Measure toolbar to activate the perimeter measurement tool.
Click on each point along the outline of the shape or path to define the segments; continue clicking until you have traced the entire perimeter.
Double-click the last point to finish the measurement and close the path if measuring a closed shape.
View the total perimeter length, which will appear in a pop-up or in the Measurement Info panel.
Best practiceFor higher accuracy, zoom in closely when clicking points along curved or complex shapes.
You can adjust the measurement scale in the Measurement Tool options if your PDF uses a custom drawing scale.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
To measure the perimeter, open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat, select the Measure tool (usually found under Tools > Measure), choose the 'Distance' or 'Perimeter' option, then click along the edges of the shape. Acrobat will show the total length as you click around the shape.
Perimeter means the total distance around the outside of a shape or path in your PDF drawing, like the edge of a room or the border of a garden.
Yes, you can measure curved paths by clicking along the curve in small steps with the Measure tool. The more points you click, the more accurate your measurement will be.
Adobe Acrobat offers more accurate and advanced measuring tools compared to most free PDF readers, which often do not have measurement features or are less precise.
Setting the correct scale ensures that the measurements you take match real-world sizes. If the scale is wrong, your perimeter result will not be accurate.
