Open your PDF Portfolio in Adobe Acrobat.
In the left pane, select the file within the Portfolio to which you want to add metadata or a description.
Right-click the selected file and choose Properties.
In the Properties dialog, enter your desired description in the Description field.
To add custom metadata, switch to the Metadata tab (if available) and fill in the relevant fields such as Title, Author, Subject, or Keywords.
NoteNot all versions of Acrobat display a separate Metadata tab; if unavailable, use the Description field for context.
Click OK to save your changes.
Repeat these steps for any other files in the Portfolio as needed.
Best practiceAdding clear descriptions or tags to each file in a Portfolio helps collaborators quickly identify relevant documents, especially in large or multi-user projects.
You can view or edit file-level descriptions in a Portfolio by right-clicking any file and selecting Properties.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.

A PDF Portfolio offers a more professional and organized way to present your files compared to a simple zip file. It allows recipients to view the contents directly within Acrobat without needing to extract them first. It also provides a visual interface for browsing the different components, making it easier to navigate your collection of documents.
Yes, putting too many files or very large files into a PDF Portfolio can slow down Acrobat's performance. For the best experience, try to keep your portfolio to fewer than 15 files and the total size under 50 MB.
