Best practiceFor best results, check the preview on multiple pages to ensure headers and footers do not overlap existing content, especially on pages with unique layouts.
You can customize headers and footers for each section of your PDF, including adding page numbers, dates, or custom text.
This runs in the Acrobat app - there is no separate API for this task.
Standardizing a title block makes all your documents look professional and consistent. It helps people quickly find key information like the document title, date, or version. This consistency also improves organization and makes it easier to manage many files, ensuring everyone uses the same format for important details.
When you use the 'Add' option in Header & Footer, Acrobat will place the new title block alongside any existing headers if they are in different locations. However, if you add a new header in the exact same spot as an old one, the new one might overlap or cover the old one. Always review your document after adding to ensure everything looks correct and no information is hidden.
| Feature | Header/Footer (Title Block) | Watermark |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Adds standard, clear information at the top or bottom of pages. | Adds a semi-transparent overlay, often for branding or status (e.g., 'Draft'). |
| Visibility | Usually opaque and clearly readable, intended to be part of the page content. | Semi-transparent, often behind other content, less prominent. |
| Placement | Fixed positions at page margins (top/bottom). | Can be placed anywhere on the page, often diagonally across the center. |
| Use Case | Page numbers, dates, document titles, author names. | Confidential stamps, company logos, 'Do Not Copy' notices. |
If your title block doesn't print correctly, check your print settings. Sometimes, 'Fit to Page' or 'Shrink oversized pages' options can resize the document, causing headers or footers to shift or become too small. Also, ensure your margins in the Header & Footer settings match the printer's printable area. Always do a print preview before printing the final document to catch these issues.
