I must send a bundle of evidence plus my written recommendation on the Harris case to the city attorney by 4pm. I have…
Open the PDF you want to send for signature in Adobe Acrobat.
Click on All Tools in the upper-left menu.
Select Request e-signatures from the tools list.
Add recipients and specify their email addresses as prompted.
Click on More Options (or the gear/settings icon) in the send for signature panel.
Locate the Set expiration date or Completion Deadline field.
Enter the desired deadline date by which recipients must complete signing.
Review all settings, then click Send to send the document for signature with the deadline enforced.
Recipients will be notified of the deadline and must sign before the expiration date.
NoteAfter the deadline passes, the agreement will expire and recipients will not be able to sign.
Best practiceIf you need to extend or change the deadline after sending, you must do so from the Manage Agreements section before the deadline expires.
Acrobat desktop and web app
| Signing Order Type | How it Works | When to Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Sequential | Signers receive the document one by one, in a specific order you set. The next signer only gets it after the previous one signs. | Use for approvals where one person must sign before another, like a manager approving an employee's request. |
| Parallel | All signers receive the document at the same time. They can sign in any order. | Use when the order of signing does not matter, and you want to get signatures as quickly as possible from everyone. |
Adding authentication, like an SMS code or email code, makes sure that only the correct person can sign the document. For important agreements, this extra step protects against fraud and proves who signed it. It adds a layer of security, making the e-signature more trustworthy and legally sound.
The 'Prepare document' step is where you add special fields to your PDF. You drag and drop places for signatures, names, and dates for each person who needs to sign. This tells Acrobat exactly where each signer should interact with the document.
