Apply safety procedures in laboratory

I need the lab safety procedures document updated for the new pesticide assays before Monday. Review the current SOP, insert step-by-step personal protective equipment and waste disposal instructions for each assay, verify corrective action steps for a spill, and add a quick reference poster page that technicians can print and pin at benches. Deliver the updated SOP with tracked changes and a printable poster PDF.

Before I give the lab SOPs to the technicians, make them easy to follow during busy shifts. Move the PPE and emergency steps to the top of each assay section, make hazard statements one-line bullets, show testing flow with a simple numbered sequence, and flag any steps that need supervisor signoff or external waste contractor involvement.

A technician just reported a near-miss during solvent transfer; no one was hurt but procedures were not followed. I don’t know if the training records are current or whether the fume hood was working. What should I do first to secure the area, what immediate evidence should I collect to decide if operations pause, and how do I communicate this to the lab team and safety officer without creating panic?
