Test and analyze evidence in forensic cases

I must write a lab report template for forensic analysts that guides them through testing and analyzing evidence: chain of custody statement, sample preparation, instruments and methods used, results with uncertainty, interpretation, and a clear conclusion suitable for court. The report must include a checklist to ensure every evidentiary step is documented before submission to the lead examiner.

Before I give the template to the crime lab, make it easier for a busy analyst to complete under case pressure — put the conclusion and legal implications up front, make the methods section checklistable, highlight where interpretation vs. observation lives, and flag any legal wording that should be reviewed by the lab’s counsel.

The senior examiner marked the draft template: I blurred pure observation with interpretation. I have the report template and a recent case example. Which sections must be rewritten to separate raw results from interpretive language, what phrasing will help analysts keep the two apart, and what simple training note should I add to reduce courtroom challenges?

Across several cases our forensic reports get attacked for mixing observation and interpretation.
