Dispatch Operators control processes and troubleshoot from the control room; you don’t usually replace pumps or climb tanks. However, you need basic mechanical knowledge to spot issues, run tests, and enter work orders into the CMMS so technicians can fix things.
You might perform light physical tasks like transferring wax, packing charcoal, or assisting with minor mechanical adjustments, but larger repairs are done by maintenance staff.
AI can help offline for writing procedures, summarizing logs, or training materials, but you must not rely on AI for real-time control decisions. Use SCADA alarms, sensor readings, and standard operating procedures for on-shift actions.
If an AI suggestion is used, verify it against the CMMS history, sensor data, and a supervisor before changing valve positions, starting pumps, or adding chemicals.
