Inventory control keeps feedstock and spare parts visible. Employee scheduling software sets shifts. Excel, Word and Outlook are used for daily reports, logs, and communication with operations and contractors.

Start by getting experience as a plant operator, completing technical courses in boilers/turbines or electric power, and learning Excel and CMMS. Safety certifications and a few years operating or maintenance experience help most hires.

Compared with an operations technician, the supervisor spends less time fixing equipment and more time scheduling, prioritizing work, and signing off procedures. Technicians focus on hands-on repairs and machine checks.

Compared with a plant manager, the supervisor is more involved in daily shift control, employee scheduling, and immediate coordination of maintenance. Managers focus more on budgets, contracts, and long-term strategy.
