They’re related but different. Welding melts base metals and usually a filler to fuse parts; brazing and soldering melt a filler metal that joins parts without melting the base metals. A welder often does both soldering and brazing tasks on small or delicate assemblies.

Which process you use depends on the material, joint strength needed, and blueprint specs. The task list includes both welding and soldering techniques, so expect to learn both in shops that make mixed assemblies.

Measure and inspect accurately. Being able to check grooves, angles, gap allowances, and spot metal imperfections with a micrometer or caliper saves time and rework. Most weld problems start with poor fit-up or wrong dimensions.

Combine that with learning to read blueprints and choose the right filler metal. If your parts fit to spec and you use the correct filler and heat, the welding itself becomes much easier and the final inspection passes reliably.
