Switch camera angles live

The live multicam cut for the client presentation is tomorrow at 10:00. During the three-hour session, the producer will call for live angle switches. Set up the sequence with keyboard shortcuts mapped to Cameras 1 through 5, start playback from the slate at 0:00, and record the Program track so we capture the switches as edit points. After the session, export the recorded program track as a standalone cut for finishing.

Before the live switching session, make the interface idiot‑proof for the producer who hasn’t used this room. Put the camera numbers on big colored bars on the monitor, map the most reliable two cameras to keys F1 and F2, make a small reference monitor showing the previous shot for cleaner cuts, and set an audible click when a switch is recorded so the producer knows the system captured it.

We rehearsed the live switch for a charity stream and the producer missed a planned switch three times in a row, leaving the wide on when we needed close-ups. I’m afraid the same will happen during the real event and the footage will look amateur. I can’t tell whether the problem is poor rehearsal notes, confusing key mapping, or the latency of the room’s control surface. What’s the quickest change to make before noon that will most reduce human error during the live cut?

After five events I’m always spending two hours straightening out the live program track: the producer switches differently each time, some cuts are too late, and we have to relink camera angles. Where is the recurring mistake coming from — lack of a standard switching template, inconsistent rehearsal, or unclear roles — and what single habit should the production team adopt so future live cuts come back clean and need minimal cleanup?
