Remove unwanted object (mask)

There’s a trash can in the background at 00:00:12–00:00:18 that ruins the shot. Remove it using a mask and frame-by-frame patching so the area matches surrounding texture and lighting; feather the mask 12 pixels and use nearby pixels for fill. Check the fix at full resolution, then render a 720p review clip for the editor to approve.

Before I share this with the director, make the object removal invisible: call out any frames where moving shadows cross the hole, surface the method used for fill (clone, patch, content-aware), and note frames where the mask needs per-frame adjustment. Flag if re-framing or a short crop would be cleaner than heavy cloning.

I masked out a light stand but at 00:00:14 there’s a faint ghost edge and the director will notice. I don’t know whether to expand the feather or repaint that frame because the background has a subtle gradient. What will most likely hide the edge without blurring the texture, and how do I check I didn’t break the motion consistency?

We keep redoing object removals because the first pass leaves telltale artifacts. Where are we losing time — in under-specifying background complexity, skipping per-frame checks, or not communicating the acceptable crop — and what single habit change would cut redo work by half?
