Determine and formulate policies

I have been tasked to draft a new workplace data policy for our unit and send it to the director for approval. Produce a one-page policy that states its purpose, scope, the required behaviours, reporting steps for breaches, and the person responsible for enforcement. Add an implementation timeline and a one-paragraph justification tied to applicable regulation or organisational goals.

Before I present this draft policy to leadership, make it easier to adopt: put the key requirement in bold on the first page, create a short decision table showing who needs to do what and when, call out any changes that will affect existing workflows, and add three simple metrics we can report monthly to show compliance.

The director wants stronger sanctions than I proposed and says legal may object. I’m worried stronger penalties will deter reporting. Explain the trade-offs I should present: what language tightens enforcement without chilling reporting, what evidence I should prepare to defend the approach, and the precise phrasing that balances deterrence and fair process.

Policy updates keep getting bogged down with minor edits and never reach implementation. Suggest a lightweight governance habit to shorten review cycles, a one-paragraph template that limits scope creep, and a rule for when to pilot versus when to mandate so policies actually take effect.
