Automate repetitive tasks with actions

There are seven repetitive steps I run on icon sets. Create an action that resizes artboards to 24px grid, aligns paths to pixel grid, expands strokes, saves an optimized SVG and a PNG export at 2x, then reverts to original view. Run the action on the 'UI_Icons_Master' file and put the outputs in a folder called 'UI_Icons_Exports_2026'. Confirm the action completes without changing original layers.

I want reviewers to approve icon exports faster. Build the action to surface the most review-relevant outputs first: create an HTML preview with 1x and 2x PNGs, include a file that lists which icons had strokes converted or rasterized, and mark any icons that required manual path fixes. Make the action ask only once for the export folder and then run unattended.

I ran my export action on 200 icons and it stopped halfway, leaving a batch with artboards resized and another batch untouched. I don't know which step failed or whether the originals were altered. I have a release tomorrow and can't re-do all icons by hand. What's the likely point of failure in a chained action, how do I safely audit which files are affected, and what is the fastest recovery path to recreate the missing outputs without losing edits already done?

We keep rebuilding similar actions for each client: one for icons, one for social sizes, one for print grid snaps. That duplication eats time and causes inconsistent exports. Which habit will stop this churn: how to design a small set of reusable, well-documented actions, who should catalog them, and what naming and storage convention will make the team actually reuse them instead of re-recording?
