Remove background noise

Remove constant background noise from the interview tracks so speech is clear without sounding processed. Identify sections with steady hum, hiss or HVAC and apply targeted reduction, then render a cleaned track and keep an unprocessed backup. Deliver by Tuesday afternoon and confirm no breathing or plosive artifacts were introduced.

Before I show this noise‑reduced cut to the client, make it easy to approve: list the clips where noise reduction was applied, show one before/after frame for each type (hum, hiss, room tone), and flag any artifacts or gated breaths introduced. Recommend where manual ADR would beat more aggressive processing.

I ran a heavy noise reduction on the location dialogue and now some lines sound watery and smeared in places where multiple people speak. The client doesn’t want ADR and delivery is in 24 hours. I can reduce the NR and accept more background noise, or try multiband NR only on the worst frequency band. Which is the least risky repair that preserves intelligibility?

Every project I do, I overdo noise reduction near the end and then rework dialogue to fix artifacts. Where should I insert a better habit — a noise audit at rushes, keeping raw backups, or a lighter initial NR pass — so I stop undoing my edits and keep natural voice?
