Organize footage with metadata

Organize the new rushes for Episode 4 into a consistent structure before the next edit session. Create bins named Scene 1 through Scene 7, sub-bins for Camera A, B, C, and a separate bin for Sound Mixes. Move each clip into the correct scene and camera bin based on the embedded metadata; tag any clip missing scene metadata with the label ‘Needs Scene Tag’ and notify Marcus in shoot ops with a list.

Before the client review, make the footage browsable for the assistant editor so they can assemble selects quickly. Organize the project into a top-level Scene bin for each location, then group clips inside by camera and by take rating. Add color labels for priority: red for reshoots, orange for hold, green for approved. Flag clips with missing slate info and surface three clips per scene that are best for the first pass edit.

I imported the day’s cards and every clip dumped into the root project bin without scene or camera metadata. The edit starts tomorrow and I don’t know which takes belong to which scene; the DIT left for the day. What’s the fastest way to sort these clips by scene and camera so the editor can start assembling, and which compromises should I warn the director about?

Each project we spend the same two days reorganizing rushes because DITs and shooters use different naming and the assistant editor keeps recreating bin structures. I want one habitual change to stop this rework. What single rule about folder and file naming at capture, enforced by whom, will save time and reduce errors across future projects?
