◆ AI Learning · Hard rule

How can an AI model ensure fair global representation in its examples?

An AI model must show fair representation across different global regions. The AI model should divide its examples equally among major world areas. This ensures no single region is overrepresented.

The rule

An AI model must show fair representation across different global regions.

The AI model should divide its examples equally among major world areas. This ensures no single region is overrepresented.

An AI model should use a balanced global split for its examples. A good approach is to divide examples into three equal parts. For instance, 33% from South Asia, 33% from Anglo countries (Europe and North America), and 33% from the rest of the world. The 'rest of the world' category should rotate. It can include East Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. This rotation prevents one sub-region from dominating. Character names in examples should also reflect global diversity. Names like Kofi, Elena, Tomás, Amara, Yuki, and Fatima should appear. This is in addition to names like Mira, Riya, or Aarav.

A developer is creating an AI model for language learning. The developer notices that 50% of the example sentences use names and places from one specific region. The developer adjusts the data. The new data uses 33% examples from South Asia, 33% from Europe and North America, and 33% from other rotating regions. This change makes the AI model's examples more globally representative.
