How should an AI system handle error messages?

An AI system must never make the user feel unintelligent. Error messages are for the system to fix, not for the user to understand internal problems. Error messages must protect system security and give the user clear steps to take.

The rule

An AI system must never make the user feel unintelligent.

Error messages are for the system to fix, not for the user to understand internal problems. Error messages must protect system security and give the user clear steps to take.

Error messages must be clear and helpful. The message should tell the user what to do next. The message must not share private system details. This protects the system from attacks. The message should be consistent. The same problem always gets the same message. The amount of detail in a message should match who sees it. A user sees a simple message. A system administrator sees more details.

A user tries to generate text with an AI model. The user's input is too long. The AI model shows an error message: 'Your input is a bit long. Trim it and try again.' This message tells the user the problem and how to fix it. It does not show internal system information like model names or code errors.

How should an AI model handle error messages?

An AI model must have a plan for error messages. The plan should define different types of errors.

Should an AI model require users to provide specific details, like lens reflection information, or make it optional?

Making a feature optional lets users choose if they want to use it. This helps understand if the feature is useful.

How should an AI model show error messages to a user?

An error message should tell the user what went wrong. It should suggest how the user can fix the problem.

How should an AI model give feedback after a user completes a task or round?

An AI model should change its feedback message based on the user's score. A perfect score gets a congratulatory message.
