◆ AI Learning · Hard rule

What are the main differences between a desktop and mobile layout for an AI application?

Mobile and desktop user interfaces have different needs. A developer must adjust layout and features for each device. This ensures a good user experience on any screen size.

The rule

Mobile and desktop user interfaces have different needs.

A developer must adjust layout and features for each device. This ensures a good user experience on any screen size.

The content area changes size. On desktop, it fills available space and scrolls. On mobile, its height is precisely calculated to fit the screen. Input controls are placed differently. Desktop controls stay at the bottom of the content. Mobile controls are fixed at the bottom of the screen, above the navigation bar. Status messages are handled differently. Desktop shows a small status message. Mobile hides the status message completely. Action chips appear at different times. Desktop shows action chips all the time. Mobile shows them only after a result is ready. The configuration bar changes. Desktop has a fixed configuration bar. Mobile uses a small, scrollable bar with tiny text. Right-side panels also differ. Desktop uses panels that float over the main screen. Mobile uses full-screen views for these panels.

A developer is building an AI chat application. On desktop, the chat input box stays visible at the bottom of the chat history. On a mobile phone, the developer makes the input box fixed at the very bottom of the screen, above the phone's navigation bar. This prevents the input box from disappearing when the user scrolls through the chat history.

How do I make sure a new companion page matches the main product's design and works everywhere?

The companion page must use the same visual style as the main product. This means using the same colors, fonts, and layout.

How should new visual elements be tested before they are released?

A new visual element needs testing at three common screen sizes. These sizes are 375 pixels, 768 pixels, and 1440 pixels wide.
