The rule

A prompt is an agreement between the user's choices, the system's instructions, and past interactions.

All parts must work together.

The 'Three-Party Contract' means a prompt connects three things. It connects the user's choices in the interface. It connects the server's instructions for the AI model. It also connects the history, which includes past AI outputs and saved settings. A developer must check all three parts before changing any one part.

A developer changes a setting in the user interface. The developer must check if the server instructions use this new setting correctly. The developer must also check if the system saves and loads this new setting from history. If not, the AI model might not act as expected.
