When switching panes, both panes briefly appear if the CSS transition is on the base state. The browser uses the destination state's transition. If both the opening and closing panes transition, they can overlap. To fix this, put the transition only on the active state. The opening pane will animate. The closing pane will not animate, preventing overlap. When closing a pane, multiple inner views show if the reset directly sets one element's display. This leaves other elements in their last state. To fix this, call the function that manages the pane's home state. This function correctly sets all inner elements to the desired reset state.
A developer creates a user interface with two sliding panels. When a user clicks to switch panels, both panels briefly show at the same time. This happens because the CSS transition is applied to the default state of the panels. The developer then changes the CSS to apply the transition only to the 'active' state. Now, when a user switches panels, only the new panel slides in, and the old panel disappears instantly, preventing overlap.
