What is an Irrigation Engineer?
Irrigation Engineers design, develop, and manage systems for the efficient delivery of water to agricultural land. They focus on optimizing water use for crop production, considering factors like soil type, climate, crop needs, and environmental impact.
You split time between office and field: checking plans, running CAD for hydraulic or transportation features, computing flow rates and grade requirements, and inspecting project sites to confirm grades and materials. On site you test soils, verify survey stakes, and coordinate construction and maintenance activities. You prepare cost estimates and public reports, advise contractors on conformance, and document environmental risks so work proceeds to specification.
